Are Your Children Safe Online?
If you’re the parent to a young child, “tween” or teenager, I’m sure you’ve worried over the challenge of making sure your child is safe in the modern, online, fully-connected world. Between home and school computers, laptops and smartphones, young people today spend a great deal of time in the virtual world… a place that has just as many dangers and threats as “real life.” Those threats are all around us:
- You’ve seen the stories on the TV news about “online predators” and the threats they pose to young people, and that’s really scary.
- Your kids are on the computer and on the internet – in one way or another – for several hours a day, and you’re concerned about what they may be exposed to.
- You’re challenged by the technology. In fact, you’re pretty sure your child – no matter how young he or she may be – knows more about the online environment than you do.
Internet safety for kids is a real concern. Studies show more than 90% of young people between the ages of 12 and 17 are online in one way or another, and as one expert has noted, children are much more tech-savvy than the adults who have the difficult job of supervising the online experience.
This website was developed with online safety for children of all ages in mind – but the site is specifically geared for parents – giving them the tools and techniques they need to “speak the language” of the digital age. You’ll find helpful articles, videos and recordings of conversations with experts in the field of online security, cyberbullying, family relations and a lot more. And while there’s a lot of great information here, there’s even more available through our exclusive online program… we call it “KISS,” which stands for “Kid Internet Safety System.” It’s available at our sister website, www.KidInternetSafety.com. I invite you to visit that site and sign up for the free mini-course. It’s a series of lessons, videos and more.
Meanwhile, please feel free to explore this site and see all that it has to offer. Also, if you have questions or need additional information, please use the “Comment” forms at the bottom of every article. By the way, you can also share your comments with your friends on Facebook as well. I will review and answer every question to the best of my ability.
Thank you for your time – I look forward to serving you!
